2017 Year in Review

2017 Year in Review

This will be my last blog post for 2017 -- and it's a little selfish because it is more for me than you. But I highly, highly recommend you indulge yourself as well. Pour yourself a glass of wine (or hot cocoa) and spend some time looking through your photos for the last year. Pick 12 that represented your year. I tried to pick 12 -- one per month -- and just could not because 2017 has been so full! The year started with the gift of sight (Thank you Feinerman Vision), included trips to Australia and Peru not to mention Sedona, Big Bear, Pensacola. Napa, DC, NYC, Seattle, Baltimore, New Orleans and Cabo (thank you academic medicine & adventurous family and friends). I helped plan a retinoblastoma meeting in DC and learned as much from my amazingly strong patients as I did from the other doctors. The Knights Templar awarded me a big grant which helped me publish a paper on a liquid biopsy for retinoblastoma in JAMA (EEE!! -- so much thanks for the team that helped make this research a reality).  There was advocating for ophthalmology at the midyear forum in DC, and presenting at academy, and new residents and much mentoring of young doctors. Then there was the food (Thank you Jonathan Gold for your culinary guide to LA). And the honor of being featured as a Fold Woman  - amazing! Woven through all of this is lots of boston terrier madness, fashion events, writing papers and blog posts and lots and lots of love. Spending an hour going through these photos reminds me how lucky I am to have such a full, rewarding career and life. It truly is beyond my imagination. Thank you, 2017. Here's hoping 2018 has anything on you.
